Fraizer sharp for England

Friday, June 19, 2009
United's Fraizer Campbell played a key role as England stormed into the semi finals of the European U21 Championships.

The striker, who spent last season on loan at Tottenham and has attracted interest from former loan club Hull City, hammered home the opening goal as Stuart Pearce's side overcame Spain.

James Milner added a quickfire second which, allied to the Three Lions' opening group win against Finland, means next Monday's game against Germany carries little more than pride.

However, Campbell and his cohorts will be taking nothing for granted. "It’s always good to get through as soon as possible but we can’t get complacent," said the 22-year-old.

"We have to make sure we play well in the next game. Tonight, the main objective was to win and get through, and then rest a few legs. It was a tough game against Spain but we came out winners.

"We worked harder tonight and we had eleven men so we played a lot better. We passed better and played to our strengths."

A point for Germany in Monday's match would see them join England in the semi-finals, while the two remaining berths will be filled by two of Italy, Serbia, Belarus and hosts Sweden, with two rounds of Group A matches to be played.
