Scouting: Who would you sign?

Tuesday, June 30, 2009
It was a memorable evening for Germany on Monday night after they clinched the UEFA European U21 Championship title with a crushing victory over Stuart Pearce's England.

Gonzalo Castro, Mesut Ozil and a Sandro Wagner double secured a 4-0 win over the Three Lions who were without the suspended Gabriel Agbonlahor, Joe Hart and United striker Fraizer Campbell.

Throughout the tournament in Sweden we asked Talking Reds users to cast an expert eye over the players involved and pick out the top talent who could be potential transfer targets for Sir Alex.

We've been inundated with scouting reports on the message board, but which of the players that have been highlighted would you most like to see at Old Trafford? You can vote now.

If United were in the market for a goalkeeper then Spain's Sergio Asenjo and Finland's Jukka Lehtovaara both look good prospects. So too does Germany stopper Manuel Neuer who kept four clean sheets in five games, including the final.

Turning to the defence, Germany's defensive all-rounder Jerome Boateng impressed our scouts, as did Finland's Jukka Raitala who can play anywhere along the backline. Another stand-out performer was Italian skipper Marco Motta who plays at right-back.

Further forward, Serbia midfielder Gojko Kacar and Germany's winger-cum-striker Marko Marin both caught the eye, as did Italian playmaker Sebastian Giovinco, England and Middlesbrough winger Adam Johnson and Swedish holding midfielder Gustav Svensson.

With the Reds losing two of last season's four main attackers following the departures of Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez, Sir Alex would seemingly be in the market for a new front man and there were a host of impressive performers in that area.

Sweden's Marcus Berg fired a hat-trick in his country's opening win over Belarus and went on to claim the tournament Golden Boot, while powerful Finnish striker Berat Sadik and Spain and Barcelona starlet Bojan Krkic both looked lively in front of goal.

Talking Reds scouts certainly picked out some top talent, but who would you like to see Sir Alex make a move for? Vote now.
