Campbell caught by Tigers
Hull have had a bid for striker Fraizer Campbell accepted by Manchester United. The 21-year-old enjoyed a successful loan spell at the KC Stadium in the 2007-08 season, scoring 15 goals in 32 starts to help the Tigers into the Premier League. Despite Hull's desire to keep Campbell for their first season in the top flight he instead went on loan to Tottenham for most of the campaign. Now they have now had a £6million bid accepted by the champions and been given permission to open talks. - Staff reporter, Daily Mirror

Widespread reports suggest Wigan's Luis Antonio Valencia could be on his way to United. A deal could be struck this week, for £17million, according to the Daily Mirror, but the Daily Mail feels the Reds are in a bidding war with Real Madrid.

Other transfer rumours in the weekend papers included Sir Alex Ferguson joining the "chase for Sheffield United's £7million-rated whizz-kid Kyle Naughton. Fergie had brilliant young right-back Naughton watched in the Blades' 1-0 Championship Play-Off Final defeat by Burnley at Wembley 13 days ago and the 20-year-old Sheffield-born starlet did not disappoint." The Reds are also being linked with a new goalkeeper, at least in the News of the World: "France keeper Yohann Pele is on United's wishlist. The 6ft 5in Le Mans ace, 26, has attracted interest from the likes of Arsenal and Spurs. But Alex Ferguson is favourite to sign Pele, seen as the perfect understudy to Edwin van der Sar."

Having scored on Saturday as England moved ever closer to a berth at next year's World Cup finals in South Africa, Wayne Rooney is quoted in The Sun on his dream of winning silverware at international level.
