Kicked in the Rib!
Manchester United and Chelsea have made official bids to sign Franck Ribery. But Real Madrid are poised to put one over the might of English football again after emerging as favourites with a huge £70million offer. Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge yesterday revealed United and the Blues had joined the race for the Frenchman, rated the hottest property still on the market. But Real are determined to add Ribery, who would prefer a move to Madrid, to the £62m capture of Kaka from AC Milan and the impending £80m arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo from United. All three deals smash the old world transfer record of £46m set when Zinedine Zidane joined Real from Juventus in 2001.

Also according to The Sun, reported United target David Villa has told friends he will only come to England if it is to play for Liverpool.
The Guardian reckons United have made a long-term decision not to sign any players aged 26 or above for large transfer fees because of new financial stipulations that have been put in place at Old Trafford to shape the club's recruitment policy. That would rule out 26-year-old Ribery, as well as Villa and Samuel Eto'o who has also been linked with a move to Old Trafford.
In other news, the Daily Mirror claims United starlet Sam Hewson has been offered a one-year extension to his contract following an impressive loan spell at Hereford last season.
